As part of the playful nature of the story, we let readers select from a variety of fonts that changed the story's body text — giving them a firsthand feel for how font choice affects readability and legibility.
I also recreated several interactive tests based on typographic research evaluating different font attributes.
The goal was to provide light, playful elements within the larger narrative, and focus on interactive learning instead of just describing research findings.
I used the Web Share API, a native Javascript API for sharing content on mobile devices, to let users share the story in the selected font. We found this share option had ten times the engagement of our normal story share tools.
